My second Photoshop CS3 tutorial. In this video, I continue working with masks to do a standard beauty retouch. I keep it simple and only correct some blemishes and wrinkles and smooth the skin. We'll do color correction and a bit of facial reconstruction (with the liquefy tool) in a later tutorial.
Those of you who already know your way around Photoshop should probably not waste your time watching this video. It's meant for beginners.
I also tried to slow down a little bit so you can understand what I'm saying, but if I'm still talking too fast, let me know.

In today's tutorial, I'm going to show you how to make a nice photo frame.
Open your image, and make sure that the layers palette is open. Right-click on your background, duplicate the layer, call this layer "Frame". Now right-click on your background once again, duplicate the layer, call the next one "Picture".
O.K. Now we are going to increase our canvas size so we have some room to work with. Click "Image", "Canvas Size", and for a picture of this size, with these dimensions, I'm going to increase each dimension by 100.
Now we want to go click on the background, use the little drop-down on the layers palette, click new layer, call this one "Colour". And the colour I am going to choose in this case, is my foreground colour, white. And I choose my "Paint Bucket Tool", click, and we have our chosen background colour.
Now, click on the "Frame" layer, and then Ctrl-click on the frame layer, and we'll have a selection that surrounds just the photo portion. And we want to click on "Layer", "Layer Mask", and "Reveal Selection".
O.K. Now you'll see layer mask appears to the right on the frame layer, but we don't want this central area to be all filled with white. White is the area that is actually going to be revealed. We want a thin border, so, once again we are going to Ctrl-click on the layer to get that same selection we had earlier, and we're going to go: "Select", "Modify", "Contract". I'm going to contract this selection by 35.
O.K. I'm going to make sure that the mask portion of the layer is selected by clicking on it, and then I am going to make sure that black is my background colour, and I'm going to cut: "Edit", "Cut".
Now you'll see that the layer mask has a thin bordered selection in the white, and we can see the effect of this by turning off the layer below, the visibility of it, and we can see the beginnings of our frame.
Now, let's add, let's click on the photo portion of the frame and go to "Filter"; we're going to go down to "Texture", and we'll choose the, uh, "Craquelure", I don't know if that's how to pronounce it properly, but that's how it comes out from my mouth. And we're going to click "O.K."; we'll have a beginnings.
Now we also want to go in: "Filter", "Distort", "Displace"; you can choose different values here but these are fine for now, and I'm going to click "O.K.". And there's a variety of textures in the, uh, you know, "Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Presets\Textures" folder. O.K. And I'm going to choose the "Rust Flakes", and click "Open". And you'll see this nice organic look that we get around here.
Now, to this layer we're going to add an effect, so we'll click on "FX" down here, the "Drop Shadow" effect, O.K., and you can, you know, darken it up a little, sort of tweak the values to your liking, click "O.K."
Now one thing you'll notice is that our picture in the background is actually overlapping this nice rough edge. We don't want that. So we're going to click on ... make sure that layer is visible ... and click on that layer, go to our "Rectangular Selection Tool", and just sort of in between this line here, sort of in the centre of our nice organically displaced photo frame, we are going to make a selection, and then we're going to invert that selection, so: "Select", "Inverse". So now we are actually selecting everything outside of the original box that we drew. And then we are going to cut that, and you'll see that that overlapping disappears and we are left with the frame.
Now the frame is cool as it is, is blends in nicely with the photo but still stands out. But there's other things that we can do with this. One is: click "Image", "Adjustments", "Hue and Saturation", and just by playing ... ooops ... I'm on the wrong layer, make sure you've selected your frame layer; "Image", "Adjustments", "Hue and Saturation", and, just by pulling this to one side or the other, we create quite a nice effect. I like that. Click "O.K.".
And something else you can do, if you would like to have this as a solid colour or something closer to a solid colour: under "FX", choose "Colour Overlay". Here it comes up with its sort of default brilliant red. And now when I said portion of a colour, here we go, we could, we could lighten that up and just kind of give it more of a hue of red overall while still maintaining some of the variations within it; or you can simply pick ... you know ... anything that's solid, any solid colour that strikes your fancy. I'm going to go with the original red, and just bring it down, to about 30% there, close to. Click "O.K."
And there you have it! A nice photo frame for your image.

Used: use the zoom in order to get a better look at what exactly you are doing
Spot Heal Brush: Time: 00:20- 00:34 y 01:27 - 01:34
Used: In order to get rid of the small but still very noticable blemishes. If you can't get rid of the blemishes with the heal brush tool.
Healing Tool: Time: 00:36 - 01:50
Used: It blends and replaces blimishes with clear skin. You press ctrl + t in order to target the skin you want to graft on there and it does the rest for you. I prefer this tool rather than the clone tool because it blends to the surrounding area automatically.
Tool: Zoom out: Time: 01:34 - 01:36
Used: To see how well your progress has been coming
Tool: Duplicate Layer: Time: 01:48
Used: Duplicate the layer before using the blur effect so that when you do begin erasing the blur around the spots you want, you can have the worked on layer to show up when you erase the blurred layer.
Tool: Smart Blur: Time: 01:51
Used: You can find the smart blur distortion under Filter- Distortion- Smart Blur. I set the settings as: high quality, radius 2-3, threshold about 25%, but you can turn it to however you think looks best.
Tool: Eraser: Time: 02:13 - 3:45
Used: Erase the blur from the hair, lips, eye brows, dark shadows, outlining of the face, and background in order to retain detail and preserve a natural look
Tool: Smudge Tool: Time: 03:48 - 04:45
Used: I use this to smudge together any discoloration from using the healing brush or from any pimples i for get to get. If you noticed the vainy apearance that the face had before i smudged it, that was what i'm talking about

My second Photoshop CS3 tutorial. In this video, I continue working with masks to do a standard beauty retouch. I keep it simple and only correct some blemishes and wrinkles and smooth the skin.
Those of you who already know your way around Photoshop should probably not waste your time watching this video. It's meant for beginners.
I also tried to slow down a little bit so you can understand what I'm saying, but if I'm still talking too fast, let me know.

the values and stuff are hard to see due to the quality, so here's a brief summary
- set "feather" to 5px of the polygon and the circle selection tool
- set the 1st brushed layer to "soft light"
- 2nd brushed layer is "overlay"
- set "feather" to 1px before starting to do the 3rd brushed layer
- set 3rd layer to "overlay"
- copy the 3rd layer and set opacity to 50%
- use "gaussian blure" 5px on the 3rd brushed layer and 4px on the 2nd

The Orton effect is a method of increasing the saturation of colors and adding a dreamy glow to photos. It is very easy to do, but many of the instructions do not show how to handle the over exposure that can occur. They also do not show how to control the blur in different areas of the screen.
This tutorial shows you a much better Orton effect process, and is a good introduction to layers as well.

Tutorial on how to cut out an image in Photoshop and stack layers to create image effects. DO NOT ASK ME TO DO WORK FOR FREE!

 | Preparations: Before we start, we need to have 5 different images. A nice sky as background, a cone-shaped mountain, patch of grasses, some roots and bushes. All rights of these resources belong to their respective owners. | |
 | Step 1 - Setting Up Background: Create a document of size 670 by 493px and drag the sky as background layer in the document. Create a new layer and call it as white. Using a large Soft Brush tool with color #FFFFFF, paint the lower half of the sky as seen in the diagram. | |
 | Step 2 - Cropping a Mountain: Next thing, you shall crop the cone-shaped mountain with the Pen tool. Just a rough outline will do since rocks are suppose to look edgy. | |
 | Step 3 - Forming the Base: Drag your mountain on top on the white layer and rotate it such that the tip of the mountain is facing down. Using the Burn tool, burn some parts on top and right of the mountain so the light source seem to come from the bottom left. | |
 | Step 4 - Drawing the Surface: Create another new layer and name it as draft. With a Pen tool, draw out roughly how you want the top flat surface to look. This will give you a better idea of how to patch the grasses later. | |
 | Step 5 - Duplicate the Grasses: Let’s proceed on to the grass. Duplicate several of this grass image and tile them seamlessly by blending their edges with a large Soft Eraser tool. | |
 | Step 6 - Patching the Grasses: Drag the grasses on top of the draft layer and set its Opacity to 50%. Go to Edit > Transform > Distort and transform the grasses the way you see it in the diagram. Ctrl-click on the draft layer to load its selection. Select the grass layer, go to Select > Inverse then press Delete. | |
 | Step 7 - Touching Up: With a small size of Smudge tool around 2px, pull the edge out of grasses randomly. You can do this as many times as you like. The more the better. | |
 | Step 8 - Adding the Roots: Using the Pen tool, path out some of the roots and drag them into the document. I darken them with the Burn tool so it blends in better with the mountain. You may do this several times more for other positions of roots. | |
 | Step 9 - Adding the Bushes: Similar to Step 8, do the same for the bushes. Blend the bushes with the mountain by erasing their edges with the Soft Eraser tool. | |
 | Step 10 - Drawing the Clouds: Last thing you need to do here is to create another new layer call clouds. Use a large Soft Brush tool size 300px with 20% opacity to dot a few patches of clouds above all these images. | |
 | Optional: You can duplicate a few more of the islands you’ve just created. Make them blur and scale them smaller so they look far away. Then start to decorate what you wish to have on the surface of your floating island! Click here to view the final image. |
